Sculptures coming to upcoming Lake Eola Park butterfly garden
The folks behind the Orlando Land Trust are working on adding a butterfly garden to Lake Eola Park.
At the Aug. 15 City Council meeting, the City approved the installation of metal wire butterfly sculptures at the park where the butterfly garden will be. The sculptures will be constructed by local artist Barbara Sorensen and are jointly funded by the Orlando Land Trust, which is contributing $15,000, and the City of Orlando’s capital improvement fund, which will contribute $44,310. Maintenance of the sculpture will be funded by the City as well.
The butterfly garden will be located on the southwest corner of Lake Eola Park by the Sperry Fountain. The garden recognizes the individuals who donated to the Orlando Land Trust, which helped the trust acquire the property on the corner of Central Boulevard and Rosalind Avenue. OLT told The Community Paper that their goal is for that piece of land to eventually become connected to the rest of the park.
