Orlando Number One For Job Growth
Fortune magazine ranked Orlando number one for job growth in 2014
According to the ranking of Orlando number one for job growth, Orlando’s job growth of 3.7 percent in the first nine months of the year was more than twice the national average.
The top 10 cities and surrounding metro areas (1 million or more workers) that made the list experienced the strongest non-agricultural job growth compared to January through September of last year, according to analysis of data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics by Professor Lee McPheters at the W.P. Carey School of Business at Arizona State University. Approximately 2.4 million jobs have been added to date this year, a 1.8% monthly average in national job growth, and an increase of about 0.1 percentage point since last year.
Florida also ranked fifth in the magazine’s state ranking for job growth during the period, with 2.9% growth overall. Fortune’s ranking didn’t provide any data on average salary of the jobs, which is a big issue for Orlando’s tourism-based economy. However, Inc. magazine highlighted Orlando as a hot spot for job growth in companies with less than 100 employees.
