Help Orlando Win $20K for a Local Park!

Lake Eola Park Orlando FL

Text “PARKS” to 31279 to vote for a local park

In recognition of Earth Day, the National Recreation and Park Association, Disney, ABC Television Group and ESPN are looking to revitalize park spaces across the country with their Parks Build Community initiative.

The annual Meet Me at the Park Earth Month campaign allows the public to nominate a city to win $20,000 to go towards a local park. The city with the most votes wins. Last year, Orlando won funds to pay for new outdoor fitness stations that were installed at Bill Frederick Park at Turkey Lake.

This year, residents can choose one of the three options to be funded:

    • Ivey Lane Fitness Area: Installing fitness equipment in Ivey Lane Park will offer healthy, no-cost opportunities to be active outdoors in this community.
    • Engelwood Neighborhood Center Adjustable Basketball Goals: Installing six basketball nets that adjust to any height between four feet and 10 feet will allow young children and people with disabilities to participate in the sport of basketball as well as older teens and adults.
    • Hankins Park Orchard: Planting a fruit tree orchard in the park will provide increased access to fresh produce and let children in recreation programs discover the joys of working with nature and reaping the results.

Click HERE to vote for one of the city’s projects or text “PARKS” to 31279 and receive a link to vote online. The contest is open from April 1 to April 30.
